Wheat crisis looms in Balochistan as govt stocks run dry

The risk of a wheat shortage is growing in Balochistan as government warehouses currently have no wheat stocks, raising concerns about supplies in the province, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

According to the Food Department, the Balochistan government has approved the purchase of 500,000 bags of wheat to meet the province’s requirements.

However, the Finance Department has yet to release the funds needed for the purchase.

Officials said that once the funds become available, the purchase of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) will be finalized.

The Food Department said it would take around one month to purchase the wheat and transport it to local government warehouses.

Until then, the province could face supply pressures if it does not act quickly.
