April 13, 2020 03:01 PM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Director Dr Ikramullah was tested positive on Monday, as the number of coronavirus cases jumped to 744 in the province.

Provincial Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra in a tweet revealed that Dr Ikramullah had been isolated at his home and was in good spirits.

The news about the province top health official came as more and more health workers are infected by the coronavirus in the country.

24NewsHD earlier reported that two more doctors and a nurse were tested positive for the coronavirus at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, after which the number of infected healthcare staff reached 28.

Dr Masood-ur-Rauf Hiraj, who is the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Multan chapter president, said the coronavirus had so far been found in 17 doctors at the hospital.

The latest results came as coronavirus tests were conducted for over 60 staff members, while more tests are being carried for others.

There are reports that at least 82 doctors are infected by the virus in different parts of the country.

The healthcare workers have been complaining about the lack of personal care equipment (PPE) as more and more of their colleagues are being infected by the virus.

Last week, a 38-year-old nurse Sadaf died of coronavirus at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital in Gujrat after which the nurses stopped performing duties in protest.

Sadaf had been experiencing respiratory problems for several days but the management didn’t pay any attention. As a result, the nurse, who was looking after the coronavirus patients, lost her life after falling prey to the very virus.

Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department said a total of 744 people had so far been infected in the province after 47 new cases were reported.

Moreover, the death toll in the province reached 34 after three more people died because of the virus.

On the other hand, the number of suspected cases has reached 4,305 while the officials are waiting for the reports of 1,209 people.
