Peshawar Zalmi thrash Multan Sultans by 24 runs in PSL 11 encounter

Peshawar Zalmi thrashed Multan Sultans by 24 runs in the 22nd match of the Pakistan Super League Season 11 at the National Stadium in Karachi on Monday.

In reply to the 197-run target, Multan Sultans scored 172 for 8 in their 20 overs.   

Multan Sultans fell short in their chase despite a series of starts from their top order, as Peshawar Zalmi bowlers delivered a disciplined performance in the encounter.

Shan Masood led the scoring for Multan with 35 runs, while Josh Philippe added 32 and Steve Smith contributed 31.

Captain Ashton Turner made 20 before being dismissed.

Sahibzada Farhan chipped in with 17, and Mohammad Nawaz scored 16, but the Sultans failed to build sustained partnerships.

Lower-order contributions remained limited, with Arafat Minhas and Mohammad Wasim Jr dismissed for 4 runs each, while Faisal Akram and Peter Siddle remained unbeaten on one run apiece.

For Zalmi, Sufiyan Muqeem was the standout performer, claiming three wickets.

Iftikhar Ahmed and Nahid Rana took two wickets each, while Aamer Jamal chipped in with one.

After being asked to bat first, Zalmi posted a competitive total of 196 for 6 in 20 overs.

Peshawar Zalmi built their innings around a strong knock from Kusal Mendis, who scored 68 off 40 balls, laced with three sixes and six boundaries.

Mohammad Haris added 38 runs, while Farhan Yousaf contributed 30 before both were dismissed after getting starts.

Captain Babar Azam struggled to make an impact, falling for 18, while Michael Bracewell scored 14 off 8 deliveries.

Iftikhar Ahmed managed 10, with Abdul Samad and Aamer Jamal remaining unbeaten on 4 and 2, respectively.

For Multan Sultans, Mohammad Ismail and Peter Siddle picked up two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr claimed one wicket apiece.
