Commenting on the expected elevation of Lahore High Court (LHC) judge Justice Ayesha Malik to the Supreme Court (SC) judge, Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) on Friday said appointing ‘favorites’ as apex court judges was against the rules as well as the constitution, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
SHCBA President Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed said admitted Justice Ayesha was a competent judge. “But elevating a judge, who is fourth on the seniority list, to the SC judge is against the spirit of court verdicts,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, SHCBA Secretary Omer Soomro stated categorically that the Bar would never acquiesce to what he termed ‘out of turn’ promotions.
He appealed to the Judicial Commission not to ratify ‘out of turn’ appointments of judges.
It is reminded here that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed had on Thursday convened the meeting of Judicial Commission on September 9 to consider the appointment of LHC Judge Justice Ayesha Malik as the SC judge in place of Justice Musheer Alam who is set to retire on August 17.
