Data on federal housing units in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi submitted in NA
The data on the number of federal housing units in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi has been submitted in the National Assembly (NA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
As per details, there are 17,496 such housing units in Islamabad, while 1,943 are in Lahore and 7,882 are in Karachi.
The data further reveals that there is not a single government residence in Islamabad and Lahore, which is illegally occupied; however, there are 3,500 residences in Karachi where retired government servants live.
It states that more than 700 housing units have been vacated since 2019 so far, while 10 to 15 units are being vacated in collaboration with the government of Sindh every month.
The data informs that the Estate Office has started the survey of all government residences on the basis of the list provided by the Intelligence Bureau on April 26, 2024 on the instructions of the federal cabinet.
In light of the data compiled as a result of that survey, 742 government residences have been vacated.
