Naqvi visits D-Chowk to inspect rehearsal for Independence Day parade
Naqvi's surprise visit exposes halt in NCCIA headquarters construction work, expresses anger over slow pace of work in Islamabad: Finds only one worker but nine on record: Orders officials to speed up construction
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived at Islamabad's D-Chowk to inspect the rehearsal for the Independence Day parade and reviewed the security and other arrangements, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Talking to media, Interior Minister said that D Chowk was an excellent venue for the parade on the eve of Independence Day.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed anger over the slow pace of work on the under-construction headquarters of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency in Islamabad.
According to the report, Mohsin Naqvi made a surprise visit to the site and inspected the progress of the headquarters upgrade project. He was unhappy to find that only one worker was present at the building site. The worker told the minister that nine people were working on the project, but construction had stopped for several days. Naqvi immediately contacted the relevant officials by cellular phone and directed them to speed up work on the headquarters project.
Speaking during the visit, the interior minister said he was disappointed to see little progress on the project. He said the purpose of his surprise visit was to check the actual situation at the site and ensure that work was moving forward.
The visit came four months after Mohsin Naqvi inspected the site on 4 April. During that visit, he reviewed the construction work planned for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency headquarters. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also accompanied him.
At the time, Naqvi called for a revised development plan to modernise the NCCIA facility. He said the agency’s responsibilities were growing and that the headquarters needed to be expanded to meet its operational needs.
The interior minister also ordered plans for vertical expansion of the building, including the addition of a new floor. He called for modern IT systems, digital facilities and other technology to strengthen the agency’s ability to investigate cybercrime.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency was established by the federal government on May 3, 2024, to investigate cyber crime in the country. It replaced the Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and operates across Pakistan.
