Live: Fazl congratulates 'sea of people' at PDM's Lahore gathering

JUI-F chief and Pakistan Democratic Movement president Maulana Fazlur Rehman has started his address at Lahore's gathering and congratulated the whole nation for successful holding of the rally at Minar-e-Pakistan and said the sea of people at the rally should be an eye-opener for all. 

Pakistan People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is addressing the PDM's Lahore gathering. He said the victory was near as he was sensing the ouster of the incumbent government very soon. 

PML-Nawaz Vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif has started her address terming the gathering successful and saying Lahore will bring the whole country together. She vowed again not give any NRO to Imran Khan.

PDM Information Secretary and Awami National Party (ANP) Central leader Mian Iftikhar while addressing the charged crowd at Minar-e-Pakistan read out a resolution containing the following points: 

18th Amendment should not be amended, and provincial autonomy should be maintained and innocent missing persons should be freed. 

The resolution demanded the removal of barbed wires around Gwadar city also.

PDM resolution demanded free and fair re-elections and rejected the ‘rigged’ incumbent government.

Former Railways Minister and PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique took a pledge from the people to oust the incompetent government of Imran Khan.

First to address the crowd was Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan's (JUP) Awais Noorani, who told Prime Minister Imran Khan to submit his resignation and called upon PTI supporters to "rebel" against the ruling party.

Awami National Party Ameer Haider Khan Hoti also condemned the ruling PTI and said that about 80 years ago, Bacha Khan had started a non-violent struggle for his nation's rights but he was termed as a traitor.

Hoti declared that terrorism was "imposed upon the Pakhtun people" saying, "Pakhtun people were the ones who were killed and were defamed as well". He added that there were "conspiracies" to lead Afghan peace talks towards failure and efforts to "create misunderstandings between Afghanistan and Pakistan".

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai called for a "Turkey-like revolution" in Pakistan and urged Maryam, Bilawal and Rehman to spearhead the movement. He said that he was striving for a Pakistan where no ethnicity would be superior to the other.

Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s Sardar Akhtar Mengal started off his address by saying that the PDM public meetings were "funeral prayers of the dictators and the powers who, for 70 years, have treated the country's Constitution as their slave".

"Who is responsible? It is not them, but the politicians and big province who have gathered in this venue today," Mengal said. "Had you controlled this dragon from day one, it would not have become this uncontrollable monster. This genie that is out of the bottle, it is your responsibility to control it."

Mengal said that 10,000 Baloch people were still missing, adding that all the people of Balochistan want was to be treated and respected as humans. He also spoke about provincial autonomy, saying that if "provinces were autonomous Bangladesh would not have been created".

Jamiat-i-Ahle Hadees chief emir Professor Sajid Mir also spoke at the gathering and said he wanted to "commend the participants for holding a grand and memorable public meeting in the shadow of Minar-i-Pakistan despite the difficulties" created by the government.

He said that the "new Pakistan's government was in quarantine" and added that PDM shared the same narrative. Mir said that the "right to self govern should be returned to the public".

Maryam first to reach rally venue


PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz was the first of the PDM leaders to reach the PDM rally venue at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Security men have made a circle around her as she moved swiftly towards the stage. After climbing up the huge stage, she waved towards the huge crowd gathered at the Iqbal Park grounds to answer their roars.

On way to Minar-e-Pakistan


The PDM leadership left the residence of PML-N leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday afternoon. They were gathered there for lunch and as well as their joint travelling towards the rally venue.

Lahore Declaration


PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that Lahore Declaration will be issued after Sunday’s rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.

Talking to newsmen, Kh Saad said “We don’t need talks now. The government people make fun of us whenever we offer to hold talks.”

He asked who will hold by-elections after resignations.

Droves and droves


Droves and droves of PDM supporters are now entering the rally site at Minar-e-Pakistan. All the Lahore arteries leading to the Iqbal Park are full of caravans and convoys.

The PML-N caravan coming from Faisalabad to Lahore faced the usual tactics by the authorities who installed barriers at different places. The caravan was heading towards Motorway for their onward journey to Lahore but it was slowed down by the barriers.

However, the PML-N activists were able to remove all the barriers and cleared the way to Motorway for their convoy.

Rally will be historic: Fazl


Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday said the Minar-e-Pakistan was said to be impossible but the workers thwarted the government's tactics. 

He was talking to media men before leaving his hotel in Lahore to attend a luncheon hosted by Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

“Today will be the biggest meeting in the history of the country,” the JUI-F supremo said.

He said PDM will pledge to make the country great again under the shadow of Minar-e-Pakistan. And Lahore and Punjab completely will participate in today's jalsa,” he added.

He said the PDM will not negotiate with the government and the incumbent government has to go home without negotiations.

Bilawal among Lahoris


Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari left Bilawal House in Lahore’s Bahria Town in a convoy of vehicles for a luncheon hosted by PML-N leader and former Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at his home in Gulberg.

Before the powershow of PDM at Minar-e-Pakistan, the PDM leadership is meeting at Sardar Ayaz Sadiq House over lunch.

PPP Chairman Bhutto Zardari is accompanied by former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Sherry Rehman.

Other party leaders Qamar Zaman Kaira, Haider Zaman Qureshi, Latif Khosa, Hassan Murtaza, Faisal Karim Kundi, Nawabzada Iftikhar and Haider Gilani. While, PPP leader Samina Khalid along with a large number of PPP workers welcomed Bilawal Bhutto at Gajjumata on Ferozepur when he was on his way to Ayaz’s house.

Lunch menu


The top leaders of the PDM has gathered at the residence of PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq for lunch. The host has prepared a variety of dishes to entertain his guests, the cream of Pakistan’s opposition parties.

The main dishes in the menu included barbeque, fish and biryani.

Top leaders Maryam Nawaz, Bilawal Bhutto, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Akhtar Mengal, Mehmood Achakzai and others have reached Ayaz Sadiq’s house for lunch.

Limited Metro Bus


The authorities in Lahore has limited the operation of Metro Bus keeping in view the PDM rally at Minar-e-Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

The bus service from MAO College to Shahdara will be suspended after 2pm but will continue to ply from MAO College to Gajju Mata on Ferozepur Road.

Maryam Nawaz leaves Jati Umra


PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz left Jati Umra in a convoy of vehicles to attend the PDM rally at Minar-e-Pakistan. However, she will first go to the residence of PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq who is arranging for the luncheon for the PDM leadership.

Caravan from KP


A vehicle taking part in the PML-N caravan travelling from Peshawar to Lahore for participating in the PDM rally has turned turtle, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The accident happened when the caravan was passing from Rashkai Interchange on Motorway. However no one was injured in the accident.

Power showdown

The 11-party opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), is all set to flex its muscles as it planned to host a massive rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore Sunday (today), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

As caravans from several cities have set off for the PDM rally in Lahore amid dense fog, the supporters of PDM parties have started to reach the venue.

Preparations for the PDM’s final rally of the year in Lahore are in full swing at the Minar-e-Pakistan Ground. A stage has been set up near the Minar-e-Pakistan while chairs were arranged on the ground at the forefront. Sound system, lights and generators are being set up at the venue.

The star attraction at the PDM rally will be PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Maryam Nawaz will lead a huge party rally from Jati Umra to Minar-e-Pakistan. Bilawal also has similar plans as he will travel through different roads of Lahore to reach the Greater Iqbal Park.

Nacta warning

The preparations came amid fresh security warning from National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) may attack the PDM rally in Lahore. The Authority has recommended taking strict security measures at the gathering and “keeping an eye out for suspicious individuals”.

The Authority stated that terrorists have changed their strategy after targeting a madrassa in Peshawar where eight people were killed and over 125 wounded in a blast.

The Punjab government has not permitted the PDM to hold a rally in Lahore. However, no action has been taken by the government to stop the rally.

An active Maulana Fazl

PDM chief and JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman visited the party office at Lahore’s Lakshmi Chowk. His special assistant Bilal Mir briefed him about the preparations for the PDM rally.

Other party leaders including Hafiz Abdur Rahman, Maulana Bilal Durrani, Hafiz Zainul Abideen, Umar Mir and Muhammad Khan Mir were also present during the briefing.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman who was accompanied by Maulana Rashid Soomro, Hafiz Ghazanfar Aziz, and Khawaj Mudassar Mahmood, expressed satisfaction on the preparations for the rally.

He also met several journalists present in the PDM office including Nusrat Javed and VOA anchorperson Aima Khoso.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazl said Lahoris will break all rally records today as ousting this illegal and incompetent government is the voice of the while Pakistan.

Rallies from Islamabad

The leaders and workers of PDM component parties from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are gathering at Islamabad Motorway Chowk for leading their rallies which will travell to Lahore to attend the rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.

PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and other local leaders have gather at the party secretariat. Fazal Chaudhry will lead the rally to Lahore.
