With AQI at 322, Lahore again emerges as world’s most polluted city

Despite tall claims made by the Punjab government that it is taking steps to control smog in Lahore and other parts of the province, people of the provincial capital have still not been able to breathe in fresh air for the last one month at least, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

And the situation was no different on Monday morning as well when the air quality index in the city was recorded at 322, again making it the world’s most polluted city.

Not only Lahorites are experiencing difficulty in breathing but they are also suffering from eye and skin diseases.   

Health experts have advised people to wear facemasks in order to protect themselves from the toxic effects of smog.

Similar is the situation in other Punjab cities such as Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi where too people are experiencing health issues.

Karachi, the country’s largest city and also the commercial hub, was ranked as the 12th most polluted city in the world, with the air quality index standing at 159.

Apart from that, there is chillness in the air as the minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius. It is especially cold in and around the airport.

Wuhan, a city of China, stood at the second position in terms of pollution followed by the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.

However, considerable improvement has been witnessed in the air quality of the Indian capital New Delhi as the city, which for the last one month was being ranked as the world’s second most polluted city after Lahore, dropped to the ninth position on Monday.
