Justice Mansoor demands urgent amendments in rules of Judicial Commission

Supreme Court of Pakistan’s senior-most judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has demanded urgent amendments in the rules of Judicial Commission of Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has written a letter to Justice Jamal Mandokel who is head of committee which has been constituted by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi to introduce amendments in the rules of Judicial Commission of Pakistan. 

In his letter, Justice Mansoor Shah demanded immediate amendments in the rules of commission for appointments in constitutional benches. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was of the view that appointment of judges will be unconstitutional without amendments in the rules of Judicial Commission. 

Justice Mansoor hoped that the draft of the new rules will be presented in the meeting being held on December 21. 

Voicing concerns, Justice Mansoor said country judiciary is going through the weakest conditions in the history and the dangers of executive’s intervention in the judiciary are more than ever. He opined that amid absence of rules, an external interference will weaken the judiciary. 

He opined that meeting should not be called for the appointment of judges until the amendments in the Judicial Commission rules are introduced. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has said that after 26th Constitutional Amendments, the role of the executive has increased in the appointment of judges therefore he demanded that creation of balance is need of the hour. 

Justice Mansoor said if a single appointment is made against the rules, the trust in the judiciary will decreased, therefore he suggested that amendments should be made urgently in the rules of judicial commission.
