PSL’s global standing strengthens as IPL faces significant brand value slump in 2025
Pakistan Super League (PSL) has continued to strengthen its global reputation through professional management and consistent performance, while India’s Indian Premier League (IPL) has suffered a significant blow to its commercial standing, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
According to a report published by the Indian business daily The Economic Times, the IPL’s brand value declined by 20 percent in 2025, pushing it to its lowest level in recent years.
The downturn follows a series of disruptions, including heightened regional tensions and the temporary suspension of the tournament earlier this year.
The IPL was temporarily halted after escalating Pakistan-India tensions in May 2025, an episode described as one of the biggest setbacks in the league’s history.
According to The Economic Times, the interruption severely damaged broadcaster confidence, advertising exposure, and the league’s overall commercial momentum.
The report further noted that uncertainty surrounding match schedules, geopolitical instability, and concerns linked to auction processes collectively weighed heavily on the league’s valuation.
Advisory firm D&P Advisory also confirmed that the IPL’s brand value has been on a continuous downward trend since 2023.
In a significant development, The Economic Times revealed that nine out of ten IPL franchises recorded a noticeable decline in brand value.
Major teams, including Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Rajasthan, reportedly suffered substantial financial losses as a result of reduced sponsorship interest and commercial uncertainty.
Analysts believed that corruption-related controversies and governance concerns in Indian cricket have further eroded the confidence of global stakeholders and commercial partners.
In contrast, the Pakistan Super League has earned praise for its consistent growth, transparent operations, and professional management.
Industry observers say PSL’s stability and expanding international reach have helped it gain credibility at the global level, positioning it as a strong and reliable cricketing brand amid challenges faced by rival leagues.
