Nepra deprives Karachiites of ‘due relief’ under fuel tariff adjustment

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday deprived the residents of Karachi of a big relief as instead of slashing the electricity prices by Rs5 per unit under the fuel adjustment for November, it settled for only Rs1.23 cut; thus depriving the Karachi-Electric (K-Electric) consumers of over Rs5 billion relief, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.    

Member Tariff NEPRA Mathar Niaz Rana, however, in his note, opposed the Authority’s decision not to pass on complete relief to the consumers.   

The NEPRA had yesterday approved a cut in power tariff by Rs1.23 per unit for a month.

The authority issued a notification, stating that the reduction had been made as part of the monthly fuel adjustment, and that electricity consumers would get relief in their bills for February. 

The consumers of K-electric will also get relief, read the notification. 

However, it said, the reduction would not apply to lifeline consumers.
