Minister reviews progress of ‘Sea to Steel’ project at Port Qasim

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has reviewed progress of "Sea to Steel" project at Port Qasim in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

A high-level meeting chaired by Junaid Anwar Chaudhry was briefed that a Chinese company Shandong Xinzhou Group has expressed deep interest in the project.

The Chinese company will submit a comprehensive feasibility study report of the project.

Addressing the meeting, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the project will prove to be a milestone in the revival of Pakistan's steel industry. 

He said Iron and Coal Berth Jetty is part of the revival and upgradation of project. 

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said modern ship recycling and ship repair facilities will be provided at the jetty. 

Minister for Maritime Affairs said scrap obtained from ship recycling will be used in local steel production.

Sea to Steel project is expected to significantly reduce steel imports, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said.

He said new opportunities will be created for the promotion of local industry and employment. 

We are determined to make Port Qasim a new center of heavy industry in the region, Junaid Anwar Chaudhary vowed.
