KP universities abolish pension of new staff to save funds

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to abolish the pension of new employees as KP universities are facing a severe financial crunch, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

KP Department of Higher Education has sent guidelines to all the universities in this regard, the TV channel reported. The circular directed, “Hire new employees on universities pay scale instead of government’s pay scale.”

The universities have been tasked to increase the school fee of affiliated schools with the universities in order to overcome the financial deficit. It has been reported that the higher Education Department of KP directed to rationalize all medical and house allowance of university employees in line with the ratio of the provincial government.

The circular also directed the universities to collect money for construction, security and other expenditures from the employees’ residing on-campus.

It is pertinent to note that there are 30 public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan, Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Frontier Women University in Peshawar, Gomal University DI Khan, Hazara University in Dhodial Mansehra, Institute of Management Science in Peshawar, Islamia College University in Peshawar, Khyber Medical University in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agricultural University in Peshawar, Khushal Khan Khattak University in Karak, Kohat University of Science and Technology in Kohat, NWFP University of Engineering & Technology in Peshawar, Pakistan Military Academy in Abbottabad, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University in Sheringal Dir, the University of Malakand in Chakdara Dir  Malakand, University of Peshawar, the University of FATA in Kohat, University of Science & Technology in Bannu, University of Swat, University of Haripur and the University of Swabi.
