MQM mulling parting ways; Zardari, Shehbaz wooing partner

January 13, 2023 10:52 PM

Key coalition partners are in action to woo the Muttahida Qaumi Movement- Pakistan leaders, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

According to sources, the MQM-P leaders are mulling over quitting the coalition and a meeting is taking up the matter.

The insiders said the leaders are laying stress on partying ways with the federal government and sought the resignations of its lawmakers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former president Asif Ali Zardari telephoned MQM-P head Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The top leaders assured the MQM-P of addressing the party concerns at the earliest.

The PPP co-chairman assured the MQM-P head of resolving the issues of constituencies and local government election at the earliest. He vowed to air good news soon.

"The MQM is our ally and we will try to solve problems, PM Shehbaz said, adding that the federal government will continue playing its part in keeping the coalition intact.

The development takes place a day after the Mutahidda factions announced a reunion. The MQM-P challenged the election commission’s decision for the prospective use of two separate electoral rolls simultaneously but its plea was rejected.

A couple of days ago, the MQM-P staged a power show in Karachi to protest against the polls and threatened to leave the ruling coalition if its demands were not met. Addressing a press conference, Khalid, Mustafa Kamal and Farooq Sattar reiterated their resolve to step up efforts to protect the rights of the people.

Saddiqui said all factions of MQM have decided to unite and now it is the responsibility of all to take Pakistan to its true destination. Mustafa Kamal hoped that they will make Karachi a developed city again. He called for joint efforts to save the youth and provide them with due education and job opportunities. Farooq Sattar said the step is taken for the greater interest of the community and party.
