Dar receives briefing on wheat stocks in Pakistan

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the current wheat reserves in Pakistan, amid ongoing efforts by the government to ensure national food security.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting was briefed by the relevant committee on the status of wheat stocks across the country. Officials informed the meeting that the level of wheat reserves was satisfactory.

The statement said the federal government currently holds around 2 million metric tons of wheat, which can be released to the provinces according to their needs. The availability of stocks would help ensure smooth supply and price stability, particularly during periods of increased demand.

Dar reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and the timely distribution of wheat across the country. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between the federal and provincial governments to manage reserves efficiently.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary Food, the Chief Secretary Punjab, officials from the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), and senior representatives of the concerned ministries.
