Japan to give 2.91 billion yen grant for Children’s Hospital Multan

Japan has announced a grant of 2.91 billion Japanese yen for the improvement of child health facilities at Children’s Hospital Multan, one of the largest paediatric hospitals in the region.

According to officials, Japan will launch a comprehensive project aimed at strengthening child healthcare services in South Punjab. Documents related to the grant aid were formally signed and exchanged between Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi and the Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also signed a grant agreement with Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Economic Affairs said that under the project, a new child healthcare facility will be constructed at Children’s Hospital Multan. The new building will include modern emergency services, a paediatric intensive care unit (ICU), neonatal ICU, surgical facilities, and advanced laboratory services.

The spokesperson said the project aims to strengthen the diagnosis and treatment system for children and transform Children’s Hospital Multan into a tertiary care and disaster response hub equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The initiative will significantly improve treatment options for children suffering from serious illnesses and those injured in accidents.

Officials added that the project will provide quality healthcare services to children not only from South Punjab but also from adjoining provinces, leading to a substantial improvement in overall child health in the region.

Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi said the project would bring a significant improvement in child health outcomes in South Punjab. JICA officials noted that the initiative is expected to reduce child mortality, enhance the quality of emergency care, and serve as a modern teaching hospital and center of excellence.

They added that the new facility would also help reduce the burden on major hospitals in other cities by providing advanced pediatric care closer to home for thousands of families.
