The Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has suspended the licence of lawyer Hassan Niazi, nephew of Prime Minister Imran Khan, after police booked him on charges of torture of a senior lawyer and a woman, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
The bar took action on the request of lawyer Muhammad Ayaz Butt and referred the matter to the executive committee while further proceedings was put off till July 17. Butt alleged that Niazi along with his accomplices subjected him and his client to torture.
Reportedly, Shahzadi Nargis had lodged an FIR at the Islampura police, alleging Niazi and four unidentified persons attacked her at sessions court last week. She claimed she came under the attack when she showed up at a court with her lawyer Ayaz Butt. She also accused Niazi of hurling abuses at her and torturing her lawyer as he stepped in to rescue her.
The complainant made a request for getting security, saying she felt insecure because the accused has the history of being involved in a number of violent acts including an attack on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology. Niazi denied any wrongdoing saying that the allegations were baseless and CCTV footage can be checked.
