Sahiwal University girl commits suicide due to in-laws’ mental torture

A young girl has committed suicide by jumping from a flyover into the Lower Bari Doab Canal in Sahiwal apparently due to the mental torture she faced from her in-laws, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The girl who committed suicide by jumping into the canal turned out to be a MS Psychology student at the University of Sahiwal.

According to the FIR, Aiman, took her own life after allegedly enduring prolonged mental torture by her Dubai-returned husband, Mohsin Shahzad. The report states that the couple had entered into a Nikah (marriage contract) three years ago, but the bride had not yet moved to her husband's home.

The FIR further alleges that Aiman’s two sisters-in-law stole jewellery from her family's house and along with her husband, subjected her to continuous mental abuse, which led to severe psychological distress.

Police said Aiman sent a WhatsApp note to her sister before taking the extreme step, explaining the reasons behind her decision.

Police at City Police Station have registered a case against the victim's husband, Shahzad, on the complaint of her father. Further investigation was under way.

Two suicides reported in Pindigheb

Two separate tragic incidents of suicide were reported from Pindigheb, a tehsil of Attock district, where a 29-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl took the extreme step.

According to police, the first incident involved 29-year-old Sardar Zeeshan, who was reportedly distressed over domestic issues. 

However, he was shifted to THQ Hospital in critical condition but could not survive. His body was transferred to the hospital for legal formalities.

In the second incident, Iqra Waseem, 16, was found dead at her residence. 

According to police, preliminary information suggests the incident may have been linked to domestic circumstances. However, officials stressed that the exact cause will only be determined after the investigation is completed.

Moreover, police have taken the weapon recovered from the scene into custody and launched investigation into both incidents from multiple angles.

Authorities said further details will be shared once the inquiries are complete.
