Finn Allen surpasses Chris Gayle T20 record with 19 sixes

New Zealand’s explosive opener Finn Allen has etched his name in cricketing history by smashing the most sixes ever in a single T20 innings, during a sensational performance in the United States’ Major League Cricket (MLC).

Representing San Francisco Unicorns, Allen struck a record-breaking 19 sixes in his 151-run knock off just 51 balls against Washington Freedom.

This historic feat surpasses the previous world record of 18 sixes in a T20 innings, jointly held by West Indian legend Chris Gayle and Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan.

Gayle had set the record in 2017 during the Bangladesh Premier League, while Chauhan matched it in 2024 against Cyprus.

Allen’s extraordinary innings also earned him two more major records.

He became the first New Zealander to score a T20 century in just 34 balls and broke the record for the fastest 150 in T20 cricket, achieving the milestone in only 49 deliveries.

The previous record for the fastest 150 was held by South Africa’s Dewald Brevis, who reached the mark in 52 balls in 2022.

Batting first in the opening match of the 2025 MLC season, San Francisco Unicorns posted a mammoth total of 269-5 — a league record.

In reply, Washington Freedom were bundled out for 146 in just 13.1 overs, handing the Unicorns a dominant 123-run victory.

Pakistan's fast bowler Haris Rauf played a crucial role in the victory, taking 3 wickets for San Francisco and dismantling Freedom’s middle order with pace and accuracy.

Finn Allen's thunderous innings, which came against a bowling lineup featuring several international stars, have taken the cricketing world by storm.

 Fans, analysts, and former cricketers alike have hailed the performance as one of the greatest ever in the T20 format.
