Most wanted human smuggler linked to Libya boat tragedy arrested in Kohat

In a major crackdown against human trafficking, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Kohat Zone has arrested Amir Hussain, a most wanted human smuggler involved in the February 2025 Libya boat accident, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

According to FIA officials, Hussain was apprehended in Parachinar, Kurram District, after an intelligence-based operation utilizing both human intelligence and modern technology. He was part of a notorious network that illegally sent innocent citizens to Europe via sea routes.

Investigations revealed that Hussain had collected Rs. 3.7 million from a victim, Nusrat Hussain, promising to smuggle him to Europe. Tragically, the victim perished in the boat accident. The suspect also received large sums of money from other victims, with authorities already seizing the bank account used for the transactions.

FIA sources disclosed that Hussain’s accomplices—Munir Hussain, Ahmed Aslam, Shah Faisal, and Wajid Ali—are operating the smuggling network from the UAE, Libya, and Italy. Interpol has been contacted to aid in their arrest.

FIA Kohat Zone’s Director reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking, stating that the crackdown on smuggling networks has intensified and all those involved will face strict legal consequences.
