Pakistan thrash Bangladesh by 128 runs in second ODI

Muaz Sadaqat shines as Pakistan have thrashed Bangladesh by 129 runs in the rain-affected second ODI of the three-match series on Friday, securing a strong comeback after losing the series opener.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a total of 274 runs in 47.3 overs for all out.

However, due to rain interruptions, Bangladesh were set a revised target of 243 runs from 32 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

The hosts struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and were bowled out for just 114 runs, falling short by a significant margin.

Litton Das was the top scorer with 41 runs, while Towhid Hridoy contributed 28, Afif Hossain 14, and Saif Hassan 12.

The rest of the Bangladeshi batting lineup, including Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, scored just 1 run each, Rishad Hossain 2, Mostafizur Rahman 4, and Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed without scoring by Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.

For Pakistan, Muaz Sadaqat and Haris Rauf were the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets each, while Shaheen Afridi claimed 2, and Mohammad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf took 1 wicket each.

Muaz Sadaqat, who was playing his second ODI, was declared the man of the match as he scored 74 and took three wickets.  

Earlier, the match was temporarily suspended in the early stages of Bangladesh’s chase after thunder and lightning were reported around the ground. 

At that time, Bangladesh were 27 for 3 in 6.3 overs when the umpires asked the players to leave the field.

The suspension was taken as a precautionary measure, as lightning poses a serious risk to players and match officials.

Pakistan set Bangladesh a target of 275 runs after posting a total of 274 all out in 47.3 overs.  

Pakistan produced a spirited batting display led by young batter Muaz Sadaqat, who made 75 off just 46 balls.

His innings was laced six fours and five sixes, giving Pakistan crucial momentum in the middle overs.

Vice-captain Salman Ali Agha also made a significant contribution, scoring a fluent 64 runs with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes, while Mohammad Rizwan scored a valuable 44.

Opener Sahibzada Farhan added 31, while Faheem Ashraf contributed 14 runs to help Pakistan build a challenging total.

Despite the strong individual efforts, Pakistan were unable to bat out their full quota of overs and were bowled out in the 47.3th over.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two scalps to keep the visitors in check at key moments.

Pakistan entered the contest under pressure after suffering a heavy defeat in the series opener, where Bangladesh secured an emphatic eight-wicket victory to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz said they wanted to bowl, saying he'd like to continue doing what brought them success in the last game. “No changes in the team,” he added.

As for Pakistan’s skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, he said the batters are aware of their mistakes and he did not want his batters to back down though.

For Pakistan the series is at stake after they were outclassed in the first clash on Wednesday last.

Bangladesh currently lead the three-match ODI series 1–0 after securing a thumping victory in the opening match.

In the first ODI on Wednesday, Pakistan fielded four debutant batters in Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain and Abdul Samad. The batting, however, collapsed in the face of Nahid Rana’s hostile spell, the fast bowler finishing with career-best figures of five for 24.

Pakistan had set a meagre target of 115 runs, which Bangladesh chased down comfortably on the first ball of the 16th over.

For Pakistan, Faheem Ashraf was the top scorer with 37 runs, followed by Sahibzada Farhan who made 27 runs, while Moaz Sadaqat contributed 18 runs.

Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan played an impressive unbeaten knock of 67 runs to guide his team to victory. Najmul Hossain Shanto also added 27 runs to the total.

From Pakistan’s bowling side, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr. claimed one wicket each.

Pakistan will now look to bounce back in the second ODI and level the series.
