Govt approves amnesty scheme for more than one passport holders

The federal government has approved an amnesty scheme for Pakistani citizens holding more than one Pakistani passport.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the summary sent by the Interior Ministry to the federal cabinet for the amnesty scheme was approved in the last cabinet meeting.
The amnesty scheme will apply to Pakistani citizens who have more than one identity and hold more than one Pakistani passport.
According to the decision of the federal government, the amnesty scheme will remain in force till December 31, 2022.
Under section 6 of the Passport Act 1974, holders of passports with more than one identity can be punished for a maximum of 3 years.
The federal government has decided to pardon more than one Pakistani passport holder under section 12 of the Passport Act through the amnesty scheme.
Earlier, from 2006 to 2016, the federal government issued six amnesty schemes, out of which about 12,000 Pakistani passports with more than one identity have been cancelled.
The Interior Ministry has said that the current amnesty scheme will allow the revocation of about 38,000 Pakistani passports with more than one identity.
