Punjab Assembly passes resolution to icrease age limit for PPSC jobs

The Punjab Assembly, in a productive session, Tuesday passed multiple resolutions aimed at reforming employment policies and intergovernmental responsibilities, while also introducing eight new legislative bills focused on social rights, education, and community-level justice, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

One resolution, presented by Member of the Assembly Amjad Ali Javed, sought an increase in the age limit for job applicants through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

The House expressed concern that Punjab lags behind other provinces, such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, which have already extended the maximum age limit to 45 years and increased the number of allowed attempts from three to five.

In Punjab, the current age limit remains 30 years with only three attempts. Due to the lack of response from the concerned department over an extended period, the resolution was passed unanimously through a voice vote.

The move is seen as a step toward creating a more inclusive and competitive recruitment framework for the province.

In a separate but equally pressing resolution, the Assembly called on the federal government to expedite the transfer of departments and institutions, including the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), to the provinces as mandated under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

The resolution highlighted that the delay in devolution has created ongoing challenges for provincial workers, particularly in Punjab, where services tied to EOBI remain hindered due to lack of jurisdiction. The House demanded that the federal government not only complete the transfer process immediately but also ensure that associated resources are handed over.

To address the gap in the interim, the resolution proposed the formation of a high-level coordination or monitoring committee comprising officials from the Punjab Labour Department and EOBI to resolve local worker issues effectively.

Alongside these resolutions, the Assembly witnessed the introduction of eight new bills, all of which were referred to the relevant committees with a reporting deadline of two months.

Among the most prominent were the Punjab Community Justice (Panchayat) Bill 2025 and the Punjab Mother Tongue Bill 2025, both presented by Amjad Ali Javed. Other notable bills included the Rehabilitation of Citizens Affected by Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2025, presented by Ayaz Ahmed, and the Punjab Women’s Inheritance Rights Implementation Bill 2025, tabled by Asma Ehtesham-ul-Haq. Javed also presented the Punjab Registration of Private Academy, Coaching, and Tuition Centers Bill 2025, addressing the unregulated growth of educational institutions.
