UK joins international mission to protect Strait of Hormuz

Britain has joined an international military mission aimed at protecting maritime trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz, amid growing concerns over regional security and global shipping stability.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, operations linked to the protection of international sea trade are expected to begin soon as participating countries increase military preparedness in the region.

British media reports said the United Kingdom has allocated an additional £115 million to support the mission, which is focused on ensuring the security of commercial shipping routes passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Under the plan, Britain is expected to provide drones, naval warships and Typhoon fighter aircraft for the operation. Advanced unmanned drone boats and specialised mine-clearing equipment will also be used as part of the mission.

A British warship is expected to be deployed in the Middle East to support maritime surveillance and defensive operations in Gulf waters.

Britain’s defence secretary stated that the mission would be entirely defensive in nature and aimed solely at protecting international maritime trade and regional stability.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and commercial trade traffic.
