Anti-smog squad to fight air pollution in Lahore

As Lahore tops the list of the most polluted cities in the world with its air quality index recording at over 387, the city commissioner has decided to form an anti-smog task force, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. .
A couple of days ago, the US Air Quality Index released the data in which Lahore was declared the most polluted city in the world. Keeping in view the severity of the situation, a meeting under the chair of Lahore Commissioner Capt ® Muhammad Usman was held in Lahore on Saturday. The meeting decided to set up an anti-smog task force. In the first phase, the administration would form 5 squads of the force.

The anti-smog squad will take action against the industrial sector that adds to the pollution. Two separate teams have been set up that will act against smoke-emitting vehicles.
In the anti-smog squad, officials of police, WASA, Municipal Corporation Limited, industries and environmental inspectors would be included.
The Lahore commissioner said that every squad would monitor everyday 12 and in a month 360 industrial units. He further stated that the anti-smog squads would recheck the furnaces that had been shifted to zig zags and all factories that were using boilers.
The squad will observe the environment rules and on any wrong action, a departmental inquiry would be initiated against the squad.
The air pollution is causing breathing and eye problems among the citizens.
A physician, Dr Javed Iqbal was of the view that due to rising air pollution, several diseases relating to breathing, nose, ear and throat were spreading. He asked the citizens to use face masks to avoid these diseases.
