Accused Abid Malhi was arrested in Manga Mandi on Monday. According to CIA SP Asim Iftikhar, Abid was arrested in Manga Mandi after a search operation.

Police said that after his death Abid was brought to Lahore where his DNA test was conducted.

On September 9, two robbers allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint in Gujjarpura area of Lahore while she was waiting for help on the motorway after her car ran out of petrol.

The other accused Shafqat is already in jail on judicial remand.

Police were tracing the prime accused since September 9, for almost a month, the day when he was allegedly robbed and raped the woman on motorway.

Malhi had managed to escape police hunt four times.

The TV channel quoting its sources also reported that the main accused was not arrested but locals forced him to surrender before the police.

Police sources maintained that the police raided Faisalabad on Monday to arrest the accused Abid but he fled away from the scene.

From Faisalabad the accused reached Manga Mandi to meet his father where his father requested a local nobleman Khalid Butt to produce Abid before the police, sources maintained.

Khalid Butt used his connections to present him before the CIA Model Town.

It is pertinent to note that Khalid Butt is the same person whose son was abducted in 2019 and when police could not rescue his son, he paid a ransom of Rs 6 million and successfully rescued his son from abductors.

Even, Abid was transferred to CIA Model Town in Khalid Butt's car, sources said.
