Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin surrendered himself to police on Wednesday when a court rejected his pre-arrest bail petition in the case of the killings of two political workers at Kotli due to firing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A case had been registered against Yasin and his two sons when two workers of a rival political party were shot dead at Mithi Jhund polling station in LA-12 Chirrhoi during the last general elections in AJK.

Both sons of PPP AJK president are already in jail.

Earlier, Yasin reached the Kotli City police station from Islamabad in a caravan.

Speaking on the occasion, he said he could have evaded arrest if he had wanted to. “But I am a man of crisis. Therefore, I decided to surrender myself to police,” he said, and asked PPP workers to remain peaceful, adding the way the party had won seats in the AJK elections, similarly, he would, too, be given a clean chit in the case.

Earlier before leaving for his hometown, PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, while addressing a press conference in Islamabad, was of the view that the people of Chirrhoi by voting for him in the October 10 by-election had certified that he and his son Amir Yasin were ‘innocent’. “The people have foiled attempts by the AJK as well as the federal governments to use state resources to get the results of their liking in the by-election,” he claimed.

He further said that there was a conspiracy behind ‘implicating’ him and his sons in the case of murder of two political workers during the general elections on July 25.
