Islamabad Red Zone sealed, police ramp up security amid unrest concerns

In Islamabad, several roads have been closed due to the potential threat to the city’s security, with all entry points to the Red Zone completely sealed off, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

To prevent any untoward incidents within the high-security zone, Islamabad police have deployed forces at various locations throughout the capital. Currently, only Margalla Road provides access to the Red Zone.

Main roads closed: 

Shahrah-e-Dastoor has been completely closed near the Serena Hotel, while Suhrawardy Road is also closed from Serena Chowk to Aabpara Chowk. The stretch from Jinnah Square Flyover to Serena Interchange remains shut as well.

The Korean Flyover near Kashmir Chowk and Rawal Dam is open for single-vehicle entry, while one side of the road between Zero Point and Khanna remains open. 

Similarly, the Sangjani GT Road allows limited vehicle access, and the Srinagar Highway from Chungi No 26 to Chand Tara Flyover is open for one-way traffic in and out. However, diversions have been put in place from Agha Nursery to Dhok Kala Khan Flyover.

The GT Road from Margalla to E-11 Flyover is open for traffic, and routes including Park Road, Murree Road, and Faizabad to Rawal Dam Flyover remain accessible as well.

SSP Security confirms police deployement:

Heavy police deployment is visible across the High Security Zone in Islamabad, and law enforcement has been placed on high alert to maintain order.

Police contingents have been stationed at multiple points across the capital to respond to any potential disturbances.

SSP Security Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider stated that strict security has been implemented at all sensitive sites. Police patrols have been increased and surveillance has intensified in Islamabad’s high-security zones.

He emphasized that no miscreants will be allowed to disrupt peace and that security arrangements are being further strengthened to ensure the capital remains stable.

Captain (R) Zeeshan Haider added that protecting sensitive locations is among their top priorities. He said security is being monitored through modern technology and Safe City surveillance cameras.

Religious protesters arrested: 

Meanwhile, between 200 to 300 supporters of a religious group staged a protest at Tarnol Phatak in Islamabad. A case has been registered against them at Tarnol Police Station.

According to the FIR, the protesters chanted anti-government slogans and delivered provocative speeches. They blocked both sides of the road at Tarnol Phatak, disrupting traffic.

Section 144 is currently enforced across Islamabad, prohibiting any kind of public gathering or procession.

Following the protest, police launched an operation and arrested 90 participants. They have been formally named in the FIR.

The case includes charges of violating Section 144, obstructing roads, and breaching the Amplifier Act.
