Gomal University in Dera Ismail Khan shut down Tuesday for an indefinite time period after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Ali Amin Gandapur threatened the Vice Chancellor Dr Iftikhar Shah to resign, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The management and administration board of Gomal University decided to continue the classes for all departments online.

The Gomal university managerial syndicate agreed that maintaining peace and order in the Gomal University is the main responsibility of the district administration, therefore all legal demands of students will be met.

The syndicate, after a long study of the matter, acted upon the report of the negotiating committee and started working on solutions for the student’s problems.

The contention went off when PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur proposed the transfer of students and assets from Gomal University to an agriculture university but the VC Dr Iftikhar Shah denied.

Former Federal Minister then organized a student protest in which the VC’s official vehicle and university property was damaged. The Police denied to take any action against the students.

Ali Amin’s threatening voice messages to the VC Dr Iftikhar Shah have also risen to the surface. He can be heard threatening the VC to resign otherwise he will be thrown out by force. He also said that he fears none and that a war hasKPK been declared against Dr Iftikhar, he fears none.

Dr Iftikhar Shah wrote letters to the personal secretaries of Governor KP, foreign Minister and the Prime Minister for getting this in their knowledge and also requested the DPO Dera Ismail Khan to file an FIR against the former minister.

The District Police Chief deployed a heavy police force at the University and started monitoring the situation himself.
