Responding to the remarks of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Tuesday said the former Prime Minister is trying to make the appointment of a new army chief controversial.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has proposed to extend the tenure of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and said that he wants the new government to appoint the new Army Chief.
The defence minister in a tweet in Urdu said Imran has become desperate and fallen so much into the lust for power that is linking the appointment of a new army chief with the politics and election.
Khawaja Asif stated in the tweet that his government will ultimately fulfil the responsibility of appointing the army chief following the constitution and best traditions of the institute.
He further stated in the tweet that the important national decisions are not subject to political interests, Inshallah.
