Pakistan, Bangladesh agree to expand cooperation in key sectors

Pakistan and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various sectors, as Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider met Bangladeshi President Mirza Fakhar-ul-Islam Alamgir on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation in different fields, including health, science and technology, culture, pharmaceuticals, ceramics and agriculture.

The Bangladeshi president thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for his congratulatory message and expressed his desire to visit Pakistan soon.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over growing cooperation in health, science and technology and cultural exchanges. They also discussed the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor, under which around 200 Bangladeshi students are currently studying at Pakistani universities.

Imran Haider said Pakistani experts were providing training to Bangladeshi medical staff in organ transplantation, while medical tourism from Bangladesh to Pakistan was also increasing.

The meeting also focused on improving direct air connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh and increasing the number of flights between the two countries.

The Bangladeshi president said better air connectivity was important for promoting business, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to build on the positive momentum in bilateral relations, maintain regular engagement and further expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
