The unfortunate saga of healthcare workers being infected by coronavirus continues with Nishtar Hospital Multan becoming a hotspot, as nine more doctors and five others were tested positive at the city’s biggest health facility, 24NewsHD reported.
The latest figures mean that a total of 42 staff members have so far been infected by the virus at Nishtar Hospital. Out of these, 25 are the doctors while the rest are the nurses and other paramedics.
Earlier on Monday, two doctors and a nurse were tested positive for the coronavirus at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, after which the number of infected healthcare staff reached 28.
There are reports that around 100 doctors have so far been infected by the virus in different parts of the country.
The doctors in which virus was found earlier had been shifted to Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Muzaffargarh.
Around 57 patients, including doctors and paramedics, were being treated at the facility by Monday.
The healthcare workers have been complaining about the lack of personal care equipment (PPE) as more and more of their colleagues are being infected by the virus.
Last week, a 38-year-old nurse Sadaf died of coronavirus at Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital in Gujrat after which the nurses stopped performing duties in protest.
Sadaf had been experiencing respiratory problems for several days but the management didn’t pay any attention. As a result, the nurse, who was looking after the coronavirus patients, lost her life after falling prey to the very virus.
