Farooq Sattar demands publication of Gul Plaza fire inquiry report

Demanding Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take notice of the reluctance to make Gul Plaza inferno inquiry report public, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar said on Tuesday that the party would approach the Sindh High Court (SHC) as well as the federal government institutions to get justice for the victims of the incident, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference at Bahadurabad in Karachi, he said that first of all he demanded the Sindh government to make the report public. “Chief Justice of the SHC too should play his role in this regard,” he requested.

Farooq said that dozens of people had lost their lives in the incident that took place on January 17, 2026. “Businesses of many traders were destroyed due to the fire,” MQM-P leader said, adding that the party had demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident so that those responsible could be identified and brought to justice.

On January 23, he recalled, MQM-P chairman wrote a letter to the prime minister, demanding the constitution of a commission to probe the matter. “As soon as the prime minister received the letter, the Sindh government lodged an FIR against unidentified persons at Nabi Bux police station.”

Farooq accused the provincial government of obstructing the formation of a commission by the federal government. “Had PM Shehbaz formed the commission under the Inquiry Act, the provincial government had no justification to form the commission,” the MQM-P leader said.
