Maryam Nawaz okays large road projects for province

A special meeting, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday, approved some large road projects for the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The meeting reviewed 133 projects launched under the CM’s Initiative.

It also reviewed 125 other road sector projects.

The chief minister ordered timely and quality construction of the Punjab’s first dust-free Multan-Vehari Road.

She also sought weekly reports on these projects from the concerned officials.

She also okayed the construction of SL-4 Lahore Ring Road project.

Besides that, approval was also given to Phase-I of the Sialkot Ring Road project under which a road would be built from Wazirabad Road to Sialkot-Pasrur Road.

A project was proposed at the meeting under which an expressway connecting Bhakkar, Layyah and Thull to M-4 (motorway) would be built.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the Rawalpindi signal-free corridor project under which seven underpasses and one overhead bridge would be constructed.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Maryam said that for the first time in the history of the province, roads as long as 12,000 kilometers were either constructed or repaired. “And for the first time, attention was paid to the construction and repair of roads linking villages to each other,” she added.

She said that quality road infrastructure would facilitate the transportation of products from one place to another.

Secretary Construction and Communications Raja Jahangir Anwar, who briefed the meeting on road projects in detail, said that in all, there were 2,143 road projects, out of which 258 were under-construction.

Similarly, he informed, 85 schemes were included in phase-I of the provincial government’s road restoration programme. “Out of these, work on 38 has been completed, while 47are still under-construction,” he added.

Likewise, the secretary went on to say, 41 schemes were included in Phase-II of the programme. “Out of these 41 schemes, work on 18 has been completed, while 25 roads are still under-construction,” he elaborated.
