UN chief praises Pakistan’s role in Iran-US peace talks

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing efforts to promote peace in the region.

According to a spokesperson, the UN chief appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating the Islamabad talks and praised Dar’s diplomatic efforts. He also reiterated the United Nations’ full support for Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives.

Dar, on the occasion, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing dialogue and diplomacy for regional peace and stability.

Likewise, Ishaq Dar also spoke with his counterpart Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan over the phone.

The two leaders discussed ongoing US-Iran negotiations and exchanged views on possible developments and next steps in the coming days.

 In the next two days the US-Iran peace talks could be resumed once again in Islamabad, as the US President Donald Trump said in a statement. The Iran talks “could happen in next two days,” the president told in interview with the New York Post.

He indicated that Pakistan’s role and its military leadership have been instrumental in facilitating the potential talks.
