Nuclear Pakistan must break the begging bowl, says Shehbaz

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Friday regretted the fact that Pakistan was a nuclear power with a begging bowl held in one hand. “Nuclear power status and begging bowl cannot go simultaneously,” he added.

“Despite being a nuclear power, we have begging bowls in our hands,” Shehbaz remarked and said disposing of the begging bowl was need of the hour.

This begging bowl, he said, wasn’t imposed upon the country by anyone. “It is our incompetence,” added the PML-N president.

Shehbaz Sharif further said “We must abandon the politics of revenge and hatred.”

On the other hand, PML-N Vice-president Maryam Nawaz said the Independence Day was a day of resolve to make Pakistan what it was meant to be. “The vision and its implementation is in our hands, dear brothers and sisters,” she added.

Addressing a special ceremony in Lahore in connection with the 74 Independence Day, Shehbaz said the biggest success that Pakistan achieved was gaining the status of a nuclear power because of which the enemy could not even think of damaging the country.

He said the dream of Pakistan was materialised after a long struggle and sacrificing hundreds of thousands of lives. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah wasn’t a leader who would bow down, said the PML-N president.

Listing the achievements made under the leadership of former premier Nawaz Sharif, he said the problems like loadshedding had been overcome and people were getting better health facilities but everything was being reversed under the PTI government.

Free healthcare services and medicines were provided to hundreds of thousands of hepatitis patients in Punjab but the incumbent had abolished the programme like several other initiatives in the sector, Shehbaz told the audience.

Due to the poor policies and incompetence of the PTI government, people were being pushed below the poverty line, he said and added that even sustaining themselves had been difficult for them.

Earlier, Shehbaz hoisted the national flag at the PML-N secretariat in Model Town to mark the Independence Day celebrations.
