Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri Saturday said that defacing the history and fanning the racism has become a usual practice of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), reported 24News HD TV channel.

In a statement, while reacting to the tweets of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chaudhri said that it was shameful that the practitioners of “Hindutva” ideology, and purveyors of hate and violence, would so hypocritically and one-sidedly invoke the tragic events and mass migration that occurred in the wake of Independence in 1947. Distorting history and stoking communalism is the special forte of the RSS-BJP regime, he said and added that far from doing anything to heal old wounds, they would go to any extent to sow further dissensions for electoral gains. He said the RSS-BJP government had been sowing the seeds of hatred. He expressed his hope that the Indian people would reject the political tactics aimed at further dividing them.

He added that India, which claimed to be the largest democracy in the world, had fallen prey to the contradictions.

PM Modi earlier today said that August 14 would be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day across the country to remember the "struggles and sacrifices of our people".

"Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day," PM Modi tweeted.

"May the #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony, and human empowerment," he added.

The Indian Prime Minister's announcement on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day comes a day ahead of India's 75th Independence Day. Pakistan observes its Independence Day on August 14.
