IMF’s MEFP part of settled reforms agenda, says Finance Ministry
Ministry makes it clear MEFP already being implemented in phases
The Ministry of Finance on Sunday termed the Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies (MEFP) the continuation of settled reforms agenda, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the ministry, there is nothing new in the IMF’s MEFP, and that it is being implemented in phases.
It further said that the agenda was essential for the country’s economic stability and durable progress.
“It is wrong to say that these conditions are sudden or are unexpected,” the ministry said, adding, “Among these, there are some reforms which the government is already implementing.”
It said that new measures were introduced in every IMF’s review, and that at the start of a programme, the aim was to achieve set targets in phases.
Elaborating further, the ministry said that the publication of returns of assets of the government servants had been part of the EFF since May 2024.
It went on to say it had been agreed upon at previous reviews that not only the performance of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should improve, but it should also be independent and autonomous. “The fact is that the bureau’s performance is impressive and its collaboration with other investigation agencies has increased,” the ministry added.
