PPP's Agha Shahbaz Durrani wins Shikarpur PS-9 by-election with 70,941 votes

According to unofficial results, PPP candidate Agha Shahbaz Durrani wins by-election for the Sindh Provincial Assembly constituency PS-9, Garhi Yaseen, in Shikarpur, with 73,554 votes, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.  

The counting of the votes of all polling stations has completed after the end of polling time. Earlier, counting of votes continued from 8 am to 5 pm without interruption and voting process remained peaceful and no untoward incident was reported. 

According to the unofficial results of all 178 polling stations, PPP candidate Agha Shahbaz Durrani leads with 73, 554 votes while runner up JUI candidate Rashad Ullah Shah got 9412 votes. 

The by-election was contested by eight candidates, including Pakistan Peoples Party nominee Agha Shehbaz Khan Durrani and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl candidate Maulana Rushdullah Shah.

The seat had got vacant following the death of veteran PPP leader Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, a former speaker of the Sindh Assembly.

Election authorities established 179 polling stations across the constituency, of which 84 were declared sensitive by the Returning Officer. The PS-9 constituency has a total of 277,792 registered voters, including 148,128 men.

Provincial Election Commissioner Ijaz Anwar Chohan has issued strict instructions to election officials and law enforcement agencies to ensure the by-election is conducted in a transparent, fair and peaceful manner. Police have been directed to remain on alert throughout the polling process. 

Officials warned that any irregularities, violations of the code of conduct or administrative lapses would be dealt with strictly, as authorities seek to maintain order and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
