Sharjeel Memon slams Dhurandhar as Indian propaganda against Pakistan 

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon has strongly criticised the Indian film Dhurandhar, calling it another example of negative propaganda against Pakistan, particularly targeting Lyari.

Taking to X, Memon stated, “Indian movie Dhurandhar is yet another example of negative propaganda by the Indian film industry against Pakistan, especially targeting Lyari. Lyari is not violence — it is culture, peace, talent, and resilience. Next month, Mera Lyari will release, showing the true face of Lyari: peace, prosperity, and pride.”

The upcoming film Mera Lyari is expected to highlight Lyari’s positive aspects, countering portrayals of the area as violent.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar has sparked controversy in Pakistan due to its depiction of Lyari as a war zone. The film features Ranveer Singh as a RAW agent and Arjun Rampal as a Pakistani intelligence officer. 

A constitutional petition has been filed in a Karachi court over the unauthorised use of images of the late Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) flags, and party rally footage in the movie’s trailer.

The petition also alleges that the film portrays the PPP as supportive of terrorists and seeks the registration of an FIR against the film’s director, producers, actors, and others involved.

The film has also drawn criticism from the family of Shaheed SP Chaudhry Aslam Khan. His widow, Noreen Aslam, objected to the trailer’s portrayal of her late husband, warning of legal action if the film misrepresents his legacy. 

SP Chaudhry Aslam, a celebrated anti-terrorism officer, was martyred in a suicide attack in 2014 while serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Karachi’s anti-terror unit.

Renowned for his fearless operations against violent gangs and terrorists, SP Chaudhry Aslam played a key role in restoring law and order in Karachi. 

His widow emphasised that any derogatory or disrespectful portrayal of her husband, who is considered a national hero, would not be tolerated.

The debate over Dhurandhar underscores ongoing concerns in Pakistan regarding foreign media representations of the country, with calls for balanced and respectful storytelling.
