Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa had a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.

The country’s security situation came under discussion during the meeting and the COAS briefed the premier about the professional matters of the Army.

General Bajwa also met President Arif Alvi and discussed with him matters pertaining to the national and the regional situation. He briefed the president about the professional preparedness of the security forces and the recent action taken by them against the terrorists.

The COAS also reaffirmed his resolve to get the country rid of terrorists from the country. Speaking on the occasion, President Alvi paid rich tributes to the security forces for laying down their lives while fighting against the anti-state elements in Balochistan as well as in erstwhile tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). “The entire nation is proud of the services rendered and sacrifices were given by our jawans,” the president said, and added, “The armed forces have defended the country’s frontiers despite all odds.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over the apex committee’s meeting, which was attended, among others, by the army chief and the DG ISI.

Sources told 24News that National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister Moeed Yusuf briefed the participants about the overall security situation in the country, with particular emphasis on the incidents of terror and the situation in Afghanistan.

Earlier in the ongoing month, the armed forces thwarted terrorist attacks in Balochistan and KP, and the presiding over the 247th Corps Commanders’ conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ), the army chief heaped praise on the troops and renewed the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

During the moot, measures adopted to fend off such offensive also came under discussion and Gen Bajwa expressed satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the formations and safeguards in place to thwart designs of inimical forces”.
