Punjab governor to consult legal experts on elections
No date could be finalized for elections to the Punjab Assembly in the meeting between Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman and officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held on Tuesday in the light of the Lahore High Court (LHC) order, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Later speaking to newsmen, spokesman for the governor said that there were some points in the high court’s verdict which needed explanation. “For that, the governor will consult with his legal experts before approaching the court,” he added.
Among others, secretary ECP, Punjab chief secretary, inspector general of Police (IGP) were present at the meeting.
Accepting the PTI’s petition, the LHC had four days ago, on February 10, 2023, ordered the ECP to announce schedule of elections in Punjab.
The high court had also ordered the ECP to hold consultations with the provincial governor in this regard.
