WhatsApp to allow users to link to their social media profiles

As WhatsApp continues to evolve, it is now testing a new feature that will allow users to link their Instagram profiles directly to their WhatsApp accounts.

This feature, currently available in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, introduces a dedicated section in the Account settings where users can add links to their social media profiles.

According to reports, the new section will be accessible from WhatsApp's profile settings, allowing users to add links to platforms such as Instagram. While the beta version only supports Instagram links, future updates may include options for linking other Meta-owned platforms like Facebook and Threads.

Once added, the social media links will appear alongside a user's name, phone number, and "About" section. The feature will be optional, and users who prefer not to display social media links can choose not to add any. WhatsApp will also provide enhanced control over the visibility of the links, similar to the privacy settings available for profile pictures.

Business accounts on WhatsApp already have the option to display social media links after completing an authentication process. However, regular accounts do not currently require authentication to add links. WhatsApp may introduce an authentication step for personal accounts before the official release to prevent misuse, such as impersonation.
