Kaira responds to speculations about viral video showing President Zardari venting anger

Senior leader of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday spoke to media representatives at the Gujrat Press Club, where he expressed support for the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, Kaira said that the recent conversation involving President Asif Ali Zardari was not a social media film but had been officially broadcast. He added that all participants in the discussion were serious about regional and local issues, particularly in the prevailing national security situation, which, he said, could not have been a lighthearted or smiling conversation.

Kaira stated that the PTI founder had suffered and that it was the party’s right to raise questions regarding his treatment. He said an investigation should be conducted into why medical treatment was not provided on time.

He revealed that the PTI founder was initially examined by a jail doctor and was later shifted to a hospital. According to Kaira, informing the family or the party beforehand could have created security concerns.

Expressing goodwill, Kaira prayed for Imran Khan’s health and said he hoped that Khan’s eyesight would be fully restored. He remarked that he was unaware whether the eye surgeon at Shifa International Hospital and his team would examine him.

Kaira emphasized that political parties, including PTI, should engage in dialogue over their reservations about the current system, adding that when political forces come together to improve governance, the political space becomes broader for addressing national challenges.
