PTA registering social media companies 

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started the registration of social media companies, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

The video-sharing applications Snack Video and Live/Likee have been registered with Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA).

Social media companies are required to register with the PTA under the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021.

The PTA gave the firms registration certificates at its headquarters in Islamabad. The authority took the step to keep a check on the content and place restrictions on ‘morally inappropriate content’.
