PAF on high alert as Lahore and Karachi FIR sectors shut for aerial drills
Airspace restrictions in new NOTAM issued: Airlines told to use alternate routes on Jan 14 and 15: Warplane exercises in specific sectors to be held from 7 pm to 10 pm
Pakistan has intensified surveillance of its airspace in view of the evolving regional situation, as multiple sectors of the Lahore and Karachi Flight Information Regions (FIRs) will remain closed at different times over the next two days, 14 and 15 January, for Pakistan Air Force (PAF) aerial exercises.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the airspace monitoring mechanism has been made more stringent, and the PAF has been placed on full alert.
Under this arrangement, combat aircraft will conduct training drills within designated sectors of both major FIRs.
Authorities have decided to shut various routes in the Lahore and Karachi FIRs during the specified dates.
Commercial pilots and airlines have been instructed to exercise maximum caution during this period and to operate aeroplanes only via the alternative approved flight paths.
As per the issued NOTAM, PAF's aerial exercises in specific sectors will be held from 7 pm to 10 pm, requiring adjustments in routine commercial air traffic.
The Pakistan Airports Authority has released updated guidelines advising airlines to avoid the restricted zones and to strictly follow the temporary rerouting instructions.
