Punjab govt to provide monthly stipend to curb child labour
In a major step to curb child labour, the Punjab government, under the socio-economic survey, will fix a monthly stipend for parents of children who will not send their children for work, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to details, the parents will ensure that they will not force their children who are below 18 years old to work for earnings.
After financial support from parents, children will be provided with education and training. Special task teams will be constituted, and a comprehensive plan will be finalized to end child labour in the province.
These committees were assigned more than 20 tasks to end child labour. The Punjab government will also establish a Helpline and rehabilitation centers for this purpose.
The Punjab government also sought proposals from all relevant departments for amendments to child labour laws.
The Punjab government said the measure will help secure the future of thousands of children.
