The Punjab government has decided to impose a complete ban on purchase of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles for government departments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

It has been decided that only electric or hybrid vehicles will be allowed for purchase while vehicles used in the field duty will be exempted from the new restriction.

According to Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, approval of NoCs for new petrol pumps will now be subject to mandatory installation of electric charging units.

He said electric charging units have been made mandatory at 170 new petrol pumps across the province that have obtained NoCs through e-Biz portal in 31 cities.
