LHC reserves verdict on Parvez’ plea against arrests

The Lahore High Court has reserved the verdict on ex-CM Parvez Elahi’s plea seeking details of all FIRs and refraining the Punjab government from further arrests, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.

The court of Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafiq held a hearing.  Aamir Saeed represented the ex-CM while Additional Advocate General Ghulam Sarwar appeared on behalf of the Punjab government.

The lawyer told the court that the police were taking Parvez to court in an armoured vehicle and made a request for providing his client with the facility of taking him to court in an ordinary vehicle.

Parvez Elahi is granted bail, but the government is not releasing him, he contended requesting the court to order authorities to refrain from making further arrests and they should inform his client about the cases, if any,  before the detentions.

The government lawyer kept insisting on rejecting the request and recalled the top court declared time cannot be given before arrest.

As the judge asked the government lawyer if he knows what the court is going to write, he said in the past 75 years, no one sought such relief and the Constitution has no room for this.

He also quoted Justice Athar as remarking the political system has become so polluted that the courts should not get involved in these matters and they should solve their problems at their own.

Parvez Elahi's lawyer said the number of cases the authorities have been filing against Parvez has no match in history too.

The DG of Anti-Corruption, IGP, DG of FIA and other parties in the petition were present in the court.
