Arrangements for local govt elections completed in all 19 districts of KP

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has reviewed the administrative preparations for holding local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with officials confirming that arrangements have been completed in 23 districts of the province.

An important meeting, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, was held to assess the preparedness for the elections and discuss the future course of action.

The meeting was attended by members of the Election Commission, the Secretary of the ECP, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, the Secretary of the Local Government Department and other senior officials.

During the meeting, Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah informed the Commission that the provincial government was fully prepared to provide administrative support, security and all other necessary arrangements required for conducting local government elections in the 23 districts.

He also noted that the terms of local government bodies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa expired on March 14 and June 19, 2026, and that the delimitation process in all 23 districts had been completed, paving the way for the elections.

The Election Commission was informed that consultations with the provincial government are continuing under Section 219(3) of the Elections Act, 2017, and Rule 15(1) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Councils Conduct of Elections Rules, 2021, to determine the election schedule in accordance with the law.

The meeting decided that another consultation session will be held after 15 days to finalise the date for the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
